Aussie Box builder lands in the USA!!!
Growing up in the good old western suburbs of Sydney Australia, Mum and Dad both had something very similar in common, fast cars and audio! by the time I could walk my old man was already on a course that would lead him to establish one of the largest, live sound, and lighting production companies in the southern hemisphere, By the time I could drive I had seen the production of many thousands of boxes!, Live audio production big enough blow the roof of a full size stadium, Home Theater, Studio monitors and yes you guessed it Car Audio!.
With multiple trucks filled with equipment we were supplying sound and lighting production to weddings, function centers and every band to hit Australian soil, Screaming Jets, The Wiggles, Blink 182, The Doors, there was not a single venue that this business could not cater to.
A self-taught wood worker Dad hand built every speaker cabinet and road case from scratch, I remember him working multiple jobs to work through the night building tons of equipment with basic tools, no one could run a jig saw like him, I think back on it now after ending up down a similar road absolutely mind blown!
Fast forward over two decades My amazing wife and I end up in sleepy old West Monroe LA, we will save this part for another blog post!!!
Not long after moving to the US I had found myself one of my dream rides and put it though some work, nothing crazy, just a bagged C63 AMG on stretched rubber and TE37's! Car audio honestly only makes up a small percent of the work I have done over the years with many, many show car builds and many successful seasons!
With a decent size shop at the house, it was time to enjoy the hobby once again after bouncing around halfway around the world, it had been a while since I had messed with any car audio One morning I woke up with urge to get some bass rolling in the daily driver at the time, this was my 2014 Mercedes CLS550 aka [YSOBAD],
I jumped online and grabbed the first equipment I could find, SKAR Audio! go ahead and roll the facepalm emojis! with a quick box build and install over a weekend I was cruising around town slamming again for the first time in a while, it was refreshing to be back into car audio after such a nice break, little did I know at the time that this budget little setup was going to get some serious attention, WOW you just have two 8's in there??? who built that for you??? and then it quickly turned into, can you build something for my car???,
All of a sudden it was time to bring myself up to times with car audio after it had evolved so much during our down time, Down the rabbit hole I went with several hundred + hours reading and educating myself on today's car audio completely shocked each day at the readily available resources available now VS 15+ years ago when it was live testing only to measure results, requests started to come thick and fast, I knew how to model and use CAD software to design, I knew how to run a table saw to mars and back, I have high standards and an attention to detail, but I knew nothing about starting a business, it was now or never! I have to have an efficient work area or ill fail on day one and I need it FAST!!!
